Promise Neighborhood (HPN) is a partnership of residents, local schools, colleges, government agencies, businesses, and non-profit organizations. These partners are all working together to provide long-lasting strategies and solutions for the entire HPN neighborhood (Jackson Triangle), which is bounded by Jackson Street, Harder Road, and Whitman Street in South Hayward for students that attend six schools within the Hayward Unified School District.

What is a Promise Neighborhood?

Inspired by the success of the Harlem Children's Zone, President Obama started the Federal Promise Neighborhoods Initiative in 2010, which is both a place and a strategy.  It is communities of opportunity that is centered on strong schools where children can learn, grow, and succeed.  A Promise Neighborhood provides comprehensive, high-quality educational and social support to ensure the long-term health, safety, and economic well being of the entire community.  Hayward is one of the first five communities nationwide selected by the U.S. Department of Education to receive a Promise Neighborhood implementation grant.

The HUSD Hayward Promise Neighborhood office is currently accepting donations of age appropriate books.  Do you have extra books that need a new home and new pair of eyes to enjoy?  Drop them off to us at the Parent Resource Hub in room 13 at 24823 Soto Road.

We are distributing books to youth year-round to support building in-home libraries and a love for reading.
