Expulsion

Expulsion is a severe consequence and response to adverse school behavior and education code violations which involves the removal of a student from enrollment in a school of the district as ordered by the Board of Education. 

 

Expulsion may be ordered for any of the acts listed as education code violations and when:

  • Other means of correction are not feasible or have repeatedly failed to bring about proper behavior and/or
  • Due to the nature of the act, the presence of the student causes a continuing danger to the physical safety to the student or others

  • Possessing, selling or otherwise furnishing a firearm
  • Brandishing a knife at another person
  • Saleof any controlled substance including the prescription drug Soma ®
  • Committing or attempting to commit a sexual assault or battery
  • Possession of an explosive
  • Causing serious physical injury except in self-defense
  • Assault with a deadly weapon
  • Possession of any knife or dangerous object
  • Unlawful possession of any controlled substance (except for the first offense of lass than 1 ounce of marijuana)
  • Assault upon any school employee

  • Hate crime
  • Terrorist threat
  • Disruption of school activities
  • Willful disobedience
  • Damage of school property/vandalism
  • Theft/attempting to steal
  • Possession of tobacco/smoking
  • Profanity/obscene acts
  • Sexual harassment
  • Possession/sales of drug paraphernalia
  • Forgery
  • Gambling
  • Tampering with fire alarm
  • Cheating on school work
  • Unsafe operation of motor vehicles and/or bicycle
  • Harassment, threats or intimidation
  • Aided or abetted in the infliction or attempted infliction of physical injury to another
