What is the Made in Hayward Pledge Kick-Off?

Each year, students districtwide recite the Made in Hayward pledge. The “MIH Student Pledge Kick-Off ” day allows students the opportunity to make a solemn promise to be college and career bound. The MIH pledge supports students in feeling a sense of commitment to their education and it is recited throughout the year in a number of ways such as the HUSD board meetings and at the MIH Oratorical Speech Festival. On the kick off day, all HUSD schools organize activities that allow students to recite the pledge and sign commitment cards. Activities range from schoolwide assemblies, rallies, or a special guests visits.

Each school receives pledge posters, commitment cards, and a link to a MIH film called, “A Message from our Local Leaders.” The film captures encouraging words from community members such as the Mayor of Hayward, the Hayward Police Chief, the HUSD Board President, the HUSD Superintendent and Hayward City Council members.
