Posted 4/26/18

The Hayward Unified School District partnered with the Special Olympics of Northern California to host the 1st Annual Special Olympics Schools Partnership track and field event. Hayward High School took the lead in planning an event on their new athletic field that incorporated both competitions and skills.

The Special Olympics Northern California Schools Partnership Program is a unique education program providing opportunities in schools for all students, from preschool to transition. It unifies students with and without disabilities through sports and whole-school involvement activities that provide them with the knowledge, experience, and skills necessary to create and sustain school communities that promote inclusion, acceptance, and respect for all students. The program is active in more than 490 pre-k through transition schools, positively impacting over 100,000 students.

Activities at the April 26th event included the 50-meter dash, a wheelchair dash, and a walker dash.
