HUSD Participates in Advanced Manufacturing Week
Posted 12/7/20

In November, the Hayward Unified School District hosted virtual work-based learning events with our various industry partners. The events were coordinated in partnership with Eden Area ROP with the goal of providing HUSD students with opportunities for
career exploration.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions this year, Advanced Manufacturing Day morphed into an entire week of virtual events during the week of November 16-20. Guest speakers from MDC Precision and Applied Technology & Science (ATS) presented to our Hayward High Engineering pathway students. Professionals from Knightscope held a robotics demo for Advanced Manufacturing Pathway students at Brenkwitz High and Engineering Pathway students Bret Harte Middle School.

Approximately 130 students participated in this year’s Advanced Manufacturing speaker series. Our Hayward High School Engineering first-year students will also be participating in the CSUEB Virtual Reality Engineering (VRES) program in the next few months in partnership with the CSUEB School of Engineering.

For our Biocom speaker series with the Biomedical Pathway programs at Hayward and Tennyson high schools, HUSD held presenters from Thermo Fisher Scientific, Oakland Genomics, and Bayer to provide our students a better understanding of professions in the biosciences. Our Theater Pathway students were treated to a presentation by a musical actor and our
Entrepreneurial Pathway students were able to learn about the publishing industry from a published author.
