Dear HUSD Community,

As you are aware, Superintendent Dr. Matt Wayne has been selected as the sole finalist to become the superintendent of the San Francisco Unified School District. He will begin that role on July 1 and continue to serve HUSD until then.

I wish Dr. Wayne all the best as he enters this exciting opportunity. San Francisco is lucky to have him.

The Board of Education’s responsibility now is to move as expeditiously as possible to begin the transition to new leadership for the district. Our first action is to hold a special meeting to discuss next steps and to consider an acting superintendent, so we do not have a gap in this critical leadership role once Dr. Wayne departs. The board will meet in closed session on Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. to discuss this.

As he said in his communication to the community and in discussions with me, he remains fully committed to help HUSD wind down the 2021-22 school year. Our support for Hayward families, educators, and staff will continue uninterrupted.

While transitions can be challenging, HUSD is a remarkable school district with remarkable people, and the Board of Education is dedicated to a process that continues the district on the best path forward under new leadership.

As we move through this process, we will share information widely and regularly through communications and on a dedicated section of the website. Thank you for all you do to make HUSD the wonderful community that it is.

Estimada comunidad de HUSD,

Como saben, el Superintendente Dr. Matt Wayne ha sido seleccionado como el único finalista para convertirse en el superintendente del Distrito Escolar Unificado de San Francisco. Comenzará ese cargo el 1 de julio y continuará sirviendo a HUSD hasta entonces.

Le deseo al Dr. Wayne todo lo mejor al entrar en esta emocionante oportunidad. San Francisco tiene suerte de tenerlo.

La responsabilidad de la Mesa Directiva de Educación ahora es avanzar lo más rápido posible para comenzar la transición hacia un nuevo liderazgo para el distrito. Nuestra primera acción es realizar una reunión especial para discutir los próximos pasos y considerar un superintendente interino, para que no tengamos una brecha en este rol de liderazgo crítico una vez que el Dr. Wayne se vaya. La junta se reunirá en sesión cerrada el martes 17 de mayo a las 7 pm para discutir esto. 

Como dijo en su comunicación a la comunidad y en conversaciones conmigo, sigue totalmente comprometido a ayudar a HUSD a terminar el año escolar 2021-22. Nuestro apoyo a las familias, los educadores y el personal de Hayward continuará sin interrupciones.
