Winton Middle School is located at 119 West Winton Ave. in Hayward, CA. Originally built in 1952, the school currently serves approximately 500 students in 7th and 8th grades under the leadership of Principal Lisa Tess.
As part of the HUSD Measure H Bond program, Winton MS has been the focus of extensive modernization and new construction. In the summer of 2019, new exterior painting and roofing were completed.
Since those projects were completed, additional modernization projects have included:
♦ Interior classroom remodeling, including new cabinetry, flooring, window treatments, interior paint, new audio/visual technology and new heating and air conditioning.
♦ New construction of a Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) classroom, connected to the current multi-purpose room (MPR).
♦ New heating and air conditioning in the MPR and Office area.
♦ Upgrades to restroom facilities including new finishes and compliance with ADA requirements.
♦ Expanded playground with new paving.
♦ Installation of a new fire alarm, clocks, and public announcement systems.
♦ Installation of new outdoor shade/lunch structure and exterior spaces for outdoor learning.
♦ New furniture in all classrooms, library, indoor lunch, staff lounge, outdoor lunch area, and offices
This project started in August 2021, and construction was done in three phases. Temporary classrooms to house school programs were provided, allowing the school to be fully operational while work was underway. The renovated classrooms have been occupied for the start of the 22/23 school year. A few remaining items are being completed in the new VAPA classroom & Office area and will be occupied soon.
